Liverpool open talks with Bundesliga club

Liverpool have wasted no time lining-up a replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

The 29-year old Dutch defender is likely to miss the rest of the season and beyond after picking-up an ACL injury following the tackle on him by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the Merseyside derby.

Although the transfer window does not open until January, they have already begun talks with Bundesliga side Schalke over a move for 20-year old centre back Ozan Kabak.

He was priced at £40 million by Schalke before the pandemic, but an initial offer of £20 million plus various add-ons may be enough to secure his signature.

That would still represent a profit for the Bundesliga side, who paid £13 million for him when they bought him from Stuttgart a year ago, after triggering his release clause.

He began his career with Galatasaray in his native Turkey before making the move to Germany.

Kabak has won four senior caps for Turkey.
