Tottenham want to cancel the contract of full-back Danny Rose.
He spent the second part of last season on loan with Newcastle, but they declined the option to convert that into a permanent deal.
The left-back was left out of Tottenham’s Premier League squad which was announced earlier this week, and he would appear to have no future under Jose Mourinho.
He was linked with a move to the Championship on loan last week, with Middlesbrough and Watford among the teams reported to be interested, but in the end he stayed put.
Now Tottenham are looking to cancel his contract and effectively pay him off.
He has eight months left on his current contract and is currently earning £70,000 a week. Terminating his contract would give Rose a substantial windfall, but Spurs would still save money on his wage bill.
It is a sad end to his Spurs career for a man who was an England player as recently as last year.
