It has now been revealed that Manchester United had a deal in lace to sign Ousmane Dembélé on transfer deal, only for the player himself to scupper the deal.
A transfer merry go-round had been constructed which would have seen Dembélé leave Barcelona for Old Trafford, with former United forward Memphis Depay moving to the Nou Camp in his stead from Lyon. And, to replace Depay, the French side had lined-up Islam Sillaini from Leicester City.
By 6 pm on October 5th all the paperwork had been completed and had been sent to the various players to be given to their respective future clubs.
However, the whole structure unravelled when Dembélé announced at 8 o’clock that same evening that he had no intention of leaving the Spanish club. That was much to the displeasure of his current manager Ronald Koeman who warned him he faced a tough season ahead with the Catalans.
