Agüero needs to earn new contract

Sergio Agüero needs to prove he is worthy of a new contract at Manchester City.

That is according to his manager Pep Guardiola who welcomed the 32-year old striker back to his side in the 1 – 0 win over Arsenal at the Etihad on Saturday night.

Agüero is in the last year of his current deal with City and has been linked with a move to Inter Milan as well as a return to Argentina and his boyhood club Independiente.

However, City are thought to be prepared to offer their record goal scorer fresh terms although Guardiola says “now he has to show like every one of us, me first, that we deserve to continue here and playing good and winning games.”.

Agüero’s return was not without controversy, with some calling for further action to be taken against him after he put his arm on the shoulder of female assistant refer Sian Massey-Ellis.

The Argentine had been out of action for four months after picking up the injury soon after the restart last June, meaning that he was missing for the knock-out stages of City’s Champions League campaign.
