Danny Rose seems certain to leave Tottenham before the domestic window closes.
The left-back has not been issued with a squad number for this season by the Premier League side, did not feature in their Europa League squad, and is widely expected to be excluded from the Premier League squad as well.
And with time running out, the England international is prepared to drop down a division to find regular first-team football with Middlesbrough.
Rose already knows the North-East well – he has had loan spells first with Sunderland, and then, last season, with Newcastle, although the Magpies declined the option to make his move permanent.
Tottenham are prepared to sell him outright and want a £5 million fee for the 30-year old, but another loan moves looks like the most likely outcome.
Rose was in talks with Serie A side Genoa about a move to join them, but that deal subsequently collapsed.
