Nicolas Otamendi is set to join Benfica as part of the deal that will see Rúben Dias move the other way for the English club in a record deal.
The Argentine defender is valued at 13.75 million and still has two years left on his current deal at the Etihad.
He is set to sign a three-year deal with the Portuguese side, provided that he passes a medical, but City will continue to pay a large part of his wages for the net two years. He will earn a reported £5.4 million, of which City will contribute a reported £3.6 million each year, and it will only be in the third year that Benfica will pick up all the expenses of employing him.
It is also reported that City have had to pay Otamendi a golden “goodbye” of £1.8 million to agree to the transfer to Portugal in the first place.
