Inter Milan are interested in Chris Smalling.
However, any deal will be dependent on Tottenham making a movie for Slovenian defender Milan Škriniar.
Jose Mourinho has identified Škriniar as a replacement for the departed Jan Vertonghen, but they do not want to meet his £46 million price tag, and the Serie A team will need to drop his asking price.
Smalling already knows Serie A well, having played last season on loan with Roma where he impressed.
They desperately want to keep him, but to date, have not been able to meet United’s £18 million valuation of the former England player. That is despite the fact that the 30-year old would appear to have no future at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
If Smalling does join Inter, he will join the swelling contingent of United old boys at the club. They already have Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sánchez and Ashley Young amongst their ranks.
