Southampton want to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek on a season-long loan from Chelsea.
The Saints are in the market for a replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who was allows to join Tottenham in a £15 million deal earlier this summer and have identified Loftus-Cheek as a potential candidate, along with Everton’s Tom Davies.
Loftus-Cheek missed more than a year’s football after picking up a serious Achilles injury in a post-season friendly and has only recently returned to full fitness.
He was chosen by Chelsea to start the opening game of this season against Brighton, but did not impress, and has not made either of the two squads since.
Now Chelsea are prepared to loan him out for the season, given that they have plenty of other midfield options available to them.
Southampton are not the only team interested in the 24-year-old, with both West Ham United and Aston Villa also monitoring developments.
