Liverpool are leading the chase for Watford striker Ismaïla Sarr, although he could be an alternative for Manchester United if their pursuit of Jadon Sancho proves fruitless.
Sarr joined Watford from Rennes last summer, and scored six goals and provided six assists during his first season with the Hornets – two of those goals came in their surprise win against Liverpool which ended the champions unbeaten record in the league last season before lockdown..
He will not come cheap, with the Championship club looking to recoup what they paid for the Senegalese international forward at least.
The 22-year old though does not want to spend this season in the second tier of English football, with Watford also facing the prospect of losing their captain Troy Deeney before the transfer window closes.
Sarr knows that if he does move to Anfield, he will have to content himself on the bench and a second-fiddle role behind the first-choice trio of Mo salah, Sadio Mané, and Roberto Firmino.
