Arsenal have been given fresh hope that they might be able to sign Thomas Partey from Atlético Madrid.
Reports from Uruguay indicate that Diego Simeone, the Atlético manager has phoned Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira to say that he wants him at the Estadio Metropolitano this season.
Torriera has been linked with a switch to Serie A side Torino in a €22 million deal, but that move has been held up in a dispute between the two clubs about payment terms.
Now the Gunners are hoping that Torriera can be used as a makeweight in a deal for Partey.
Previously the Spanish side have adamantly insisted that the only way they will sell the Ghanaian international is if his release clause of £45 million is met by the North London club.
Partey remains one of Mikel Arteta’s two main summer targets, with the other being French playmaker Houssem Aouar from Lyon.
