Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has ended months of speculation by signing a new contact with Arsenal that could be worth up to £250,000 a week.
The club captain’s current contract was due to end at the end of the season, meaning he could begin discussions with other teams in January.
The Gabonese striker was not short of offers, and was approached by other teams with several lucrative deals, but, in the end, he was convinced to stay by manager Mikel Arteta who said that he had the chance to create a legacy at the Emirates.
The news will come as a massive relief for Arsenal fans, who have seen too many players run down their contracts and leave for free in recent years.
Since signing from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018 for £56 million, Aubameyang has scored 72 goals in 111 appearances for Arsenal, including the brace that helped them beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final at the start of last month.
