Liverpool have told Barcelona they will need to pay £15 million if they want to sign Gini Wijnaldum.
Ronald Koeman wants to be re-united with the player he previously managed for the Dutch national side, as he begins the job of re-building his squad at the Catalan club.
They do not have much money to spend in the current window, and were hoping to sign Wijnaldum, who now has less than 12 months on his current contract at Anfield, for £10 million.
However, the Premier League champions are not prepared to lower their valuation of the player whom they bought from Newcastle United for £23 million four years ago.
At the same time, Liverpool are loathe to let him walk away for free at the end of the forthcoming season, and were ready to offer the 29-year old a new deal at the club until Barcelona made their interest known.
