Rennes want £30 million for Chelsea target

Ligue 1 side Rennes have told Chelsea that they want £30 million for goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The Senegalese international is the latest name to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as Frank Lampard’s steps up his hunt for an alternative to Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has fallen out of favour after an indifferent campaign last season.

Ajax’s André Onana, Atlético Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Dean Henderson have all been linked with a switch to West London, and now Mendy, who kept 13 clean sheets in 34 appearances for the French side has been added to that list.

28-year old Mendy is by no means an overnight sensation, having spent years in lower league football in France. He began with third-tier side Cherbourg, before switching to Marseilles B team, but never played a game for them.

He then joined Stade de Reims in Ligue II and helped them gain promotion to the top flight in France before his transfer to Rennes at the start of last season.

He has won 8 senior caps for Senegal.
