Spurs close in on deal for Wolves full-back

Tottenham are closing in on a deal to sign Matt Doherty from Wolves for a fee of £15 million.

Doherty, if he completes the move, will be Tottenham’s third signing of the summer, after Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg from Southampton, and goalkeeper Joe Hart who has joined the club on a free transfer.

And, with the arrival of the Republic of Ireland international at the club, that could clear the way for Serge Aurier to be sold.

Doherty has made 260 appearances from Wolves in all competitions since joining the club in 2010, including more than 50 in their marathon campaign last season. He has previously admitted that he is a lifelong Arsenal fan, whose favourite player of all-time is Dennis Bergkamp!

Aurier has failed to convince since joining Spurs from PSG in 2017, despite being first-choice right-back for much of last season. He has been linked with a move to Serie A, although Spurs have already turned down one bid for him from AC Milan.
