Chelsea are set to tie-up a one-year deal for Thiago Silva later this week.
The 35-year old is leaving PSG after 8 years at the club, with his last appearance for them being their Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich in Lisbon on Sunday night.
Talks about a move to West London are already well advanced, and, barring last minute hitches, the deal should be wrapped-up in the coming days.
Frank Lampard has made one of his summer priorities the improvement of Chelsea’s defence. They conceded 79 goals in all competitions next season and that needs to be significantly improved if the club is to challenge for top honours.
He believes that Silva, despite his age, can bring some much needed solidity and experience into their backline.
Although the initial contract will be for a period of 12 months, there will be an option for it to be extended at the end of the season.
