Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign left-back Ben Chilwell from Leicester City.
They are set to pay £50 million for the England international, who has been one of Frank Lampard’s top summer targets as he looks to solidify his porous defence.
Chilwell, a product of the Leicester academy, has made 123 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions since making his debut in an EFL Cup tie in 2015. He has also become a first choice for Gareth Southgate and has 11 full England caps to his name.
He missed the last few games of the season with a heel injury, but it is not thought to be serious, and should be fit for Chelsea’s first game of the new campaign away to Brighton on September 14th.
Leicester initially wanted a lot more for Chilwell but have dropped their price because of the financial impact of the pandemic and given the player’s obvious desire to leave the club.
