Chelsea have signed 18-year old centre-back Xavier Mbuyamba from Barcelona.
The teenage defender has signed a three year contract with the London side and will join their development squad.
The Dutch defender began his career with MVV Maastricht who play in the second tier of football in the Netherlands, making his debut in a game against Volendaam in November 2018. He went on to make 11 appearances for them that season, and so impressive was his form that Barcelona were persuaded to make a move for him.
However, although he featured for the Catalans in the UEFA Youth League, he did not get the chances with their under-19 side that he was hoping for, and now he is hoping for the chance to restart his career in West London.
He may get the chance to play for his new club in the Lansing.com Trophy, in which Chelsea will feature an under-21 side. They have been drawn against Bristol Rovers, Walsall and Oxford United in the group stages.
