Arsenal’s Greek defender Sokratis Papastanthopoulis has been linked with a move to Serie A side Napoli.
The 32-year-old joined the Gunners from Borussia Dortmund two years ago, and, although he was a regular started under Unai Emery, has been used sparingly by Mikel Arteta. He barely played for the club after lockdown, except for a brief cameo in the FA Cup final.
Arteta ahs made remodelling his defence one of his summer priorities, and with new recruits expected, some of the existing centre-backs are expected to be moved out of the club. They are ready to listen offers for Calum Chambers, Rob Holding, and Shkodran Mustafi, and Sokratis is another who will be free to leave for the right offer.
Sokratis has previous experience of Serie A, having played for both Genoa and AC Milan in the past. Napoli are potentially looking for a replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly, who is reported to be on Manchester City’s wish list.
