Willian signs for Arsenal

Brazilian midfielder Willian has joined Arsenal on a free transfer, to nobody’s surprise – the move had been an open secret for weeks.

The 32-year old has signed a three-year deal at the Emirates worth £220,000 a week, after his seven-year spell with Chelsea came to an end. Last week.

Willian, who joined the West London side from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013 in a £30 million deal made 339 appearances for Chelsea, and won the Premier League twice with them, the FA Cup, EFL Cup and the Europa League.

However, he declined to extend his stay with them because they declined to offer him a long enough new contract.

Willian will wear the number 12 shirt next season for his new club and will meet up with his teammates in two weeks’ time after he has had a brief summer break.

He is Arsenal’s fist signing of the summer window.
