Arsenal’s hopes of keeping Dani Ceballos have been dealt a major blow after his parent club Real Madrid performed a U-turn and changed their previous stance on the player.
The 24-year old Spanish international moved to the Emirates on a season-long loan, and, after a difficult start, became an integral part of the team that won the FA Cup under Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners were in talks about extending his loan for another year, this time with an option to buy, but now the Spanish side have had a major change of mind.
Financial constraints in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic means that plans for a major summer spending spree to re-build their team have been shelved, and instead they are looing to within and their current squad.
And that looks like meaning a recall to Ceballos, with his fine recent performances convincing the Real hierarchy he is now ready to play for them on a regular basis.
