French club Rennes have begun initial talks with Chelsea over a potential transfer for England defender Fikayo Tomori.
Although they are open to a permanent deal, a loan is considered the more likely option at this stage.
Tomori impressed during the opening months of the last campaign under Frank Lampard, but then struggled for form and dropped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. Although he made 15 Premier League starts across the entire campaign, only one of those came in 2020, the two-all draw away to Bournemouth.
Although Frank Lampard, who had Tomori on loan with him when he was manager of Derby County, has previously insisted that the 22-year old has a bright future at Stamford Bridge, he cannot guarantee him first-team football next season, and may regard another loan spell as the best thing for him at this stage of his development.
Rennes finished third in Ligue 1 last season.
