Aston Villa are considering a move for Liverpool striker Divock Origi this summer.
Villa manager Dean Smith wants to avoid a repeat of this season’s struggles by adding a proven goal scorer to his squad. Only captain Jack Grealish got into double figures across all competitions during the 2019 – 2020 campaign.
Origi made 44 appearances for the Champions last season, but most of those were from the bench, and he knows that he is below Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mané in the pecking order at Anfield.
And he realises that he needs to be playing regular first-team football if he wants to force his way into Roberto Martinez’s plans for the Belgian squad for the European Championships next summer.
If Origi does depart Liverpool, he will leave a club legend by dint of the goal he scored for them in the Champions League final against Tottenham in Madrid.
