Tottenham are to be offered a chance to sign Watford captain Troy Deeney.
The 32-year old is set to leave the Hertfordshire club after their relegation to the Championship, because he is one of the highest earners at the club, and they want to trim their wage bill.
Spurs are in the market for a back-up to Harry Kane, especially after they allowed teenage striker Troy Parrott to leave for a season-long loan at Millwall last week.
Tottenham’s initial preference is to make any deal for Deeney a loan as well, although Watford would rather sell a player who has just one year left on his current deal with the club.
Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson has also been discussed as a possible option, but because of his profile and age, he is likely to cost significantly more than Deeney. Spurs are looking for value deals this summer because of the financial challenges the club is facing in the wake of the coronavirus.
