Manchester United are unwilling to extend the current loan deals for Chris Smalling and Alexis Sanchez with Serie A clubs.
Instead they want to make the loan of Smalling to Roma, and Sanchez to Inter Milan into permanent deals this summer.
Both had their one-year loan deals extended until early August to coincide with the revised end of the Serie A season.
However, as things currently stand, they are scheduled to return to Old Trafford on August 2nd, meaning neither will be able to play for their respective clubs in the final stages of the Europa League.
In the case of Smalling, it looks like they may get their way. Roma have already published pictures of him in their kit for next season, and are reported to be very keen on sealing a deal for him.
Sanchez too appears to be finally coming good at Inter after a difficult start with them, but it remains to be seen if they are prepared to commit to him long-term.
