Chelsea have identified an alternative to Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell as they attempt to solve their left-back problem.
Manager Frank Lampard has made strengthening his options in that position one of his summer priorities. Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmeiri have played there this season without either convincing, whilst club captain César Azpilicueta has also been deployed there out of position.
Chilwell is their number one target, but Leicester are likely to demand a fee more than the £80 million they received last summer for Harry Maguire from Manchester United for the England man.
Now Robin Gosens, wo plays for Serie A side Atalanta, has been marked-out as a cheaper target, with a price tag of around £27 million.
Gosens, who is also wanted by Juventus and Inter Milan, has been compared to Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, not just for his dynamism, but for his ability to initiate attacks from deep, as well as his defensive capabilities.
