Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz is very interested in a move to Chelsea this summer.
But to secure the services of the highly rated German international, Chelsea need first to secure Champions League qualification for next season.
On Sunday, Chelsea booked their place in the FA Cup final against Arsenal with a comprehensive 3 -1 defeat of Manchester United, but they need to make sure that they finish in the top four otherwise Havertz will join a side that are playing in Europe’s elite club competition next season.
Chelsea are away to Liverpool on Wednesday and conclude their league campaign against Wolves at Stamford Bridge next Sunday knowing that it is incredibly tight at the top. They are third on 63 points one pointy ahead of both Leicester and Manchester United, who play each other on the last day of the season.
Chelsea have already acquired the services of Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner for next season, but Havertz is very much the next piece in the jigsaw that Frank Lampard is trying to build at Stamford Bridge.
