Chelsea are amongst a clutch of clubs looking to agree a deal with midfielder Angel Gomes, who seems certain now to leave Manchester United.
The Edmonton-born player has been training with the United academy since he was aged six, and the Old Trafford side were desperate to keep him. However, with his current contract due to end, he has turned down an offer of a new deal worth £25,000 a week plus bonuses because he has better offers on the table from elsewhere.
One of them is from Chelsea, with super-agent Pini Zahavi trying to broker a deal. However, it is by no means the only one with clubs in Germany, Spain, Italy and Portugal all vying to sign the 19 year old, including Benfica, Valencia and Hamburg.
United themselves now appear reconciled to his departure. When questioned, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said “it seems like they have not managed to agree…yes, he’s leaving then”.
