Tottenham have lodged a bid for Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Magalhäes, who currently plays for French Ligue 1 side Lille.
The 22 year old is on the radar of a number of European clubs, including Everton and Arsenal, but Spurs have tried to pre-empt them by offering £27 million for him.
Spurs have made upgrading their defence one of their summer priorities. Jan Vertonghen is set to leave the club when his contract expires, whilst there are concerns about the pace of Toby Alderweireld.
Magalhäes was signed to Lille from regional football in Brazil in 2017, making his first-team debut for them later that same year. After spells on loan at Troyes and Dinamo Zagreb, he returned to Troyes, where he cemented a reputation for himself as one of the best young defenders in the league.
Prior to the shutdown of French football, he had played 24 times for them this season, and helped them to a fourth-placed finish.
