Premier League clubs have until Tuesday (June 23rd) to decide what to do about players whose contracts expire at the end of the month.
Typically, contracts run until June 30th, but this season the matter has been complicated because of the break for the Covid-19 outbreak. And, with the season set to extend until August, in some cases, because of the FA Cup, clubs face a deadline as to whether to agree short-term extensions with contracted players.
It is by no means certain that all will want to sign such deals. Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser is one such player who has made his last appearance for the club, because he is worried that he could pick up an injury in the games that remain that could jeopardise a move to a future team.
Executive teams across the country face a busy few hours as they decide who they want to keep, and who will be leaving.
