Newcastle United are interested in signing Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri from Liverpool in the summer.
The 28 year old has three years left on his current deal at Anfield, but has been deemed surplus to requirements and is likely to be sold, especially as the club have a ready-made replacement in the shape of Japanese winger Takumi Minamino, who they bought from Red Bull Salzburg in January.
During the January window, both Roma and Sevilla enquired about the possibility of taking Shaqiri on loan but, due to their involvement in three competitions at the time, Liverpool were not prepared to let him go.
However, with the Swiss international wanting to play regular first team football, and with opportunities limited under Jurgen Klopp, they are now prepared to sell him, and Newcastle, who are in the middle of being taken over, have emerged as a possible destination for a man who helped his current side win the Champions League last season.
