Manchester United have begun background checks on Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, ahead of a possible move for him in the summer.
The 24 year old is one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s main transfer targets, and had been enjoying a fine season for Villa, despite their lowly position in the Premier League, with nine goals and eight assists in 31 appearances in all competitions this season.
He attracted headlines of the wrong sort in March when he was caught breaking government lockdown rules to party at a friend’s house, leaving a trail of damaged cars in his wake on his way home.
Despite this, United are still keen on signing him, but want to know more before firming-up their interest.
Villa valued Grealish at £80 million prior the suspension of the season. However, they may have to compromise on that price given the financial challenges that they are likely to face because of the Covid-19 pandemic, especially if they are relegated back to the Championship.
