Arsenal are in negotiations to sign 22 year old centre-back Axel Disasi on a five year deal from French club Reims.
The Gunners made an approach for the French under-20 international – who is also eligible to play for DR Congo – last December, but it was rejected at the time. However, with Disasi out of contract at the end of next season, they have had a change of mind and are prepared to sell the £15 million player now rather than let him leave on a free in a year’s time.
Reim’s defence is second only to Real Madrid’s when it comes to meanness in Europe’s top five leagues, and Arsenal will be hoping that Disari can form a partnership with William Saliba, who will be moving to the Emirates from Saint Etienne this summer.
The move for Disari illustrates the new financial reality for Arsenal. They were previously linked with RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, but his valuation of £80 million means they have been forced to pursue a cheaper option.
