Chelsea could be set to revive their interest in Napoli forward Dries Mertens.
The Stamford Bridge side made a move for the 32 year old Belgian international, but that was turned down at the time, and it was expected that he would sign a new deal with the Serie A side.
But now it appears he has had a change of heart. He was about to put pen to a new deal worth £6.3 million a year with Napoli when the coronavirus pandemic broke out. And he seems to have used the time away from football to reconsider his options, knowing that his next move will be his final big contract.
He is aware that, because he is a free agent in the summer, whoever he joins will pay him a large signing-on fee. And he also knows that the wages that he is likely to get in the Premier League are greater than they normally pay in Italy.
