Dutch international uncertain of United future

Dutch international defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is facing an uncertain wait to see whether Manchester United will trigger a contract extension for him or not.

The 22 year-olds current at Old Trafford expires at the end of June, and, with the Covid-19 pandemic raging, all talks about his future have been put on hold, including whether the Premier League side intend to exercise their option of giving him another 12 months at the club.

Fosu-Mensah made his first team debut under Louis van Gaal, but after seeing his development stall under Jose Mourinho, he went on loan to Crystal Palace. He blossomed at the South London club and, so good was his form, that it earned him his first senior Dutch international cap.

Another loan spell with Fulham followed, but his progress has been hampered by a cruciate knee ligament injury, and he has not played for a year.

If he leaves Old Trafford he is not likely to be short of offers, but his preference is to stay at United and to fight for his chance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
