Liverpool are in advanced talks with midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum over a new deal.
The 29 year old Dutch international joined the Anfield club in 2016 from Newcastle United, and has gone on to make 177 appearances for them in all competitions, scoring 18 times.
His current contract expires in 2021, and, earlier this year, there were indications that Liverpool were prepared to sell him this summer, given his age profile.
However, amidst interest from clubs in Italy and Spain, there has now been a change of mind, and the Merseyside club want to tie him down to a new deal that will extend his stay with them until 2023, with an option for a further year.
Meanwhile, the runaway league leaders are facing an anxious wait to find out if they will be crowned champions for the first time in 30 years, with all football in England currently suspended because of the coronavirus epidemic.
