Although Dean Henderson has never played a senior match for Manchester United, they are prepared to offer him a bumper new contract to fend off attention from Chelsea.
The 22 year old is in his second loan spell with Sheffield United. Having helped the Yorkshire club win promotion last season, he has played a prominent role in their first season back in the Premier League, and had the joint most clean sheets in the league along with Liverpool’s Alisson, before the season’s interruption.
Although a Manchester United player, his future at Old Trafford has been in some doubt because he is unlikely to want to return to play second fiddle to David de Gea, who signed a neew long-term contract only last September.
However, with Chelsea in the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer, United want to protect the value of their investment by improving Henderson’s existing deal with them.
