Matteo Guendouzi has been hailed as a rising star since moving to Arsenal from French side L’Orient in July 2018, and there were talks recently that the club were ready to offer him a new lucrative long-term contract.
However, two weeks can be a long time in future, and now he is battling for his future at the club after falling foul of manager Mikel Arteta and his coaching staff during their recent mid-season training camp in Dubai. The Spaniard and his team were unhappy about his attitude in the training sessions, and a row ensued that continued on the return to the team’s hotel.
The response of Arteta was swift and Guenedouzi was left out of the match day squad completely for the match against Newcastle at the weekend, having been virtually an ever present in the sixteen since joining the club.
Now it remains to be seen if he was just being taught a lesson and will be recalled for the Europa League match against Olympiakos on Thursday in Greece or if his exclusion is more long-term.
