Arsenal are planning to offer midfielder Matteo Guendouzi an improved new contract.
The 18 year old was an unknown when he was signed from French Ligue 2 side L’Orient in the summer of 2018, but he soon forced his way into the Gunners’ side and has gone on to make 77 appearances for the club.
He started every game for Unai Emery this season, and, despite not always being an automatic starter under his successor, Mikel Arteta, has done enough to convince the Spaniard he is worth a new deal. He is currently on £40,000 a week, but that figure is likely to be significantly boosted if he puts pen to paper on an improved contract.
His form has been good enough to twice earn him a place in the senior French squad, although he has yet to make his debut for Didier Deschamps’ team. He was also nominated for the Golden Boy award of 2019, but lost out in the end to João Felix of Atlético Madrid.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
