Manchester United’s hopes of signing defensive midfielder Declan Rice in the close season have been given a boost.
United have long been admirers of the 21 year old England international, who is under contract at the London Stadium until 2024, but previous approaches have been rebuffed by the Hammers who slapped a £60 million price tag on him last summer in order to deter would-be suitors.
However, former United boss David Moyes, who is now in charge at West Jam, has now admitted that the club could be forced to sell Rice if the club’s current struggles continue, and use the funds generated to try and rebuild the squad.
Rice, who has played every minute of every Premier League game so far this season, has been one of the few bright spots in what ha been a dismal campaign for the East London side, United missed the chance to run the rule over him more closely when West Ham’s game at neighbours City, was called off because of Storm Ciara.
