Liverpool have rejected approaches from both Spanish club Sevilla and Serie A Roma to take Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri on loan for the rest of the season.
The 28 year old joined the Anfield club from Stoke City 18 months ago for £13 million, and, during his first season at the club, he helped them win the Champions League. He also featured regularly for the first team, making 30 appearances, and contributing six goals and five assists.
Injuries and competition for places has limited his opportunities so far this season, and he has only made ten appearances to date.
Despite this, Jurgen Klopp is not prepared to allow him to leave the club in January, because h does not want to weaken his squad at a critical juncture of the season. Liverpool are chasing their first league title since 1990, and still involved in the FA Cup and the Champions League as well.
