Barcelona are planning to make an audacious bid to sign Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on loan for the rest of the season.
The Catalans are in the market for a new striker to replace Luis Suárez, who will be out for up to four months with a knee injury, and believe that the Gabonese international is the ideal player to fill the void.
Aubameyang has only got 18 months left on his current contract, and, despite Arsenal offering him a new deal, the club captain has so far rejected their overtures. That has prompted speculation that they may look to sell him in the summer, rather than allow him to destabilise the club by running down his contract, a situation they got themselves in with Aaron Ramsey, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in the past.
However, with Mikel Arteta’s side heavily dependent on his goals this season, Barcelona’s request is likely to fall on very stony ground.
