United bid £25 million for teenager

Manchester United have bid £25 million for teenager Jude Bellingham, despite the fact that he has only made 25 appearances for his club side Birmingham City.

Earlier this season, the 16 year old made history when he became the youngest man ever to play for the club, and he is already attracting interest from clubs across Europe, despite his tender years.

Now United have decided to pre-empt offers from clubs in Germany, Spain and Italy by making a bid for the teenager, although, as part of any deal, Birmingham will try and insist that he is lent back to them so he can continue his development with the West Midlands club.

The move for Bellingham reflects Manchester United’s change in transfer strategy, with a conscious decision made to bring more British talent to the club, especially those which can be developed, rather than the acquisition of expensive, ready-made foreign imports.
