Arsenal may not sign anybody during the January transfer window, despite their obvious need to bolster their squad in certain key areas, notably central defence and midfield.
That is according to manager Mikel Arteta who admits “It’s a possibility, yes”.
The news will come as a disappointment to the club’s fans who believe that an injection of fresh talent is needed to bolster a flagging season, with the club down in 19th place in the Premier League, and their dreams of a top four finish receding further into the distance.
It is also a surprise given the widely held belief that, when Arsenal were trying to persuade Arteta to take the job, a major negotiating point with the Spaniard was the club’s willingness to back him in the January window.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for PSG left-back Layvin Kurzawa, but that move is likely to happen in the summer when he becomes a free agent.
