Tottenham have been linked with a loan move for Porto striker Zé Luís.
Jose Mourinho is desperate to add a striker to his squad with Harry Kane out of action for an indeterminate amount of time, following surgery on the hamstring injury he picked up against Southampton.
Now he has turned to the Cape Verde striker, but there are significant obstacles in the way before any deal can be brokered. Luís does not have an EU passport, nor can he obtain a work permit on the basis of his country’s standings in the FIFA world rankings. In any case, he has not played in the requisite 75% or more of their matches in the past two years.
Instead the North London will have to make an appeal to the Premier League’s Exception Panel, which allows clubs to sign players not otherwise qualified on the basis of the special talent they would bring to the league.
