Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward has blocked Ashley Young’s proposed move from Manchester United to Inter Milan.
The 34 year old club captain was poised to make the move, after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and had already agreed personal terms on an 18 month contract with the Serie A side.
He is out of contract in the summer at Old Trafford, and is free to negotiate with a foreign club now, but it seems that United are not prepared to allow him to leave in the current window, with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saying “we can’t weaken ourselves, we have to strengthen ourselves”.
Young has found himself relegated to a back-up role since the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the club’s first choice right-back, whilst, on the other side of the field, the emerging talent of Brandon Williams is competing with Luke Shaw for the left-back role.
Since his time at the club Young has made 261 appearances for United.
