Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes has had a medical at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of agreeing an 18 month loan deal to the Premier League club.
The 21 year old box-to-box midfielder is set to become Jose Mourinho’s first signing since he took over as Spurs manager last November.
Fernandes joined the academy system at Benfica as a 9 year old, and worked his way up through the club, joining their B side in 2017,a nd breaking through into the first team a year later. He has since gone on to make 23 appearances for the Primeira Liga side.
He has played for Portugal at very age level and made his debut for the senior national side in 2018.
The deal with Spurs includes an option to buy him outright when his loan deal expires in the summer of 2021.
His arrival will help swell the numbers at Spurs depleted by long-term injuries to Harry Kane and Mouusa Sissoko.
