Chelsea are considering making a bold move for Bayern Munich left-back David Alaba in the January window, although it may cost them up to £60 million.
The 27 year old Austrian international has 18 months left on his current contract at the Allianz Arena, where he has enjoyed a glittering career since making his debut for them as a 17 year old in 2009. Since then he has won eight Bundesliga titles, four German Cups, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup with the Bavarian side.
Now they are hoping that he may be tempted by a new challenge as manager Frank Lampard seeks to solve one of his problem positions. Marcos Alonso is out of favour at Stamford Bridge, and his replacement, Emerson Palmieri, has failed to convince. Captain César Azplicueta has been switched from right-back to play there several times, but it is not his natural position.
