Both Napoli and former club Ajax want to sign Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen.
The 32 year old is out of contract at White Hart Lane in the summer, which means he is free to talk to foreign clubs now, especially as any discussions over a new deal at the North London club appear to have stalled.
Napoli are in the market for a new defender under new manager Gennaro Gattuso, as they look to climb the Serie A table in the second half of the season. And Ajax, who sold the Belgian international to Spurs seven years ago for £12 million are also in need of defensive reinforcements, after former Manchester United centre-back Danny Blind was diagnosed as having a heart condition.
Vertonghen has featured heavily in the Spurs team since Jose Mourinho took over as manager, but could not prevent them slipping to a one goal defeat against Southampton on New Year’s Day.
