Manager Jurgen Klopp has downplayed the likelihood of their being more January signings at Anfield.
The League leaders have already made their first move, bring in Japanese winger Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg for a fee of £7.5 million. However, the German has hinted that he may be the only new arrival this month, despite the league leaders facing an injury crisis, with only 23 fit senior outfield players available for Thursday’s match against Sheffield United.
Minamino has already trained with his new team mates, but he is not eligible to play for the club until their FA Cup tie against Merseyside rivals Everton on Sunday.
Klopp’s stance has always been not to buy players unnecessarily, because of the problem of a bloated squad when the injured are ready for a return to first-team action, so it looks like he will make do with what he has got, saying “We don’t have in all positions massive alternatives, so a few of them have to go again and hopefully they can.”.
