Manchester United are interested in signing Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes.
The 20 year old has been on United’s radar for some time, and there were even some suggestions that they were ready to make a bid for him last summer. That did not materialise but now there are reports that representatives of the player are in the UK, trying to negotiate a loan deal, with an option to buy of £34 million.
Highly rated in Portugal, Fernandes has had a difficult season so far, with the start of his campaign delayed by a metatarsal injury. However, since then, he is believed to have fallen out with the club’s manager Bruno Lage, and he has not started the last seven games for the Lisbon side.
Fernandes has a release clause of £102 million, but Benfica are aware that they cannot hope to get anything like that given his current absence from the first team.
